Gena Haranis – Senior Vice President

As the Senior Vice President, I oversee many of the company’s consulting projects with clients, with my colleague Michelle Rupe, and also oversee projects related specifically to workforce development and child welfare. The work I do for JANUS involves using my planning expertise to help develop new business and help clients develop and implement new programs and approaches to resolve critical human services problems. Being a product of the ‘60’s, I couldn’t think of a better field to be in. I love the work I do now even more than when I worked with people one-on-one. The rewards are different but just as satisfying. And, I think I’m more effective now because I can ensure that a broader spectrum of people are fairly represented and better served. I guess you could say I sell ideas. I offer new ways of looking at things so the agencies we serve can get a better view of the big picture. This pleases me a lot. In this field you need to be able to look at things holistically because the level of bureaucracy can be overwhelming and can mitigate against people “seeing the forest” because they are always looking at the trees. I credit the President of JANUS Solutions, Tom Blatner, with being the first to challenge me to think differently – a trait I’ve tried to employ ever since. But I credit my father with my most effective tool when trying to get people to understand and work together towards a common goal – humor.
