Our Experts

Tom Blatner - President

As the President and founder, I try to provide the overall vision, strategic direction and plan for how JANUS Solutions can be successful in the context of its mission. My job is to engage our stakeholder community in discussions about key human services issues. My focus is to have our staff, our clients and our allies create a critical mass of smart, caring people that can be a true and powerful voice for change. I have always believed that my role in life is to be a champion for social and economic justice. Having traveled extensively over the years I have learned a lot about how different cultures live, relate to and treat each other. That information has convinced me that our position at JANUS Solutions has to start with examining how we treat one another in our own country and what we need to do to improve our own conditions.

In my lifetime I think I’ve been able, in different ways and at different times, to make it possible for a few people to live better lives because of the things my colleagues and I have been able to do. Essentially I think the biggest challenge facing the whole human services industry today is finding a way to move to a preventive, holistic mode of service and away from the remedy or casualty modes that only deal with problems after they occur. This may be harder to accomplish, but in the end it is a strength-based strategy that is much more humanitarian and much more affordable. A solution-in-principal if you will. Like Bob Dylan says, “you don’t need to be a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.” If we cannot respond to the rights of our young, we may be lost for good. We all know what needs to be done; now it’s just a matter of doing it.
